If you believe, you will receive!

So lately my daughter has been having some doubts about Santa. It started the other night. The girls asked if they could put out their shoes for the Brownies (or elves). After bed Sydney came upstairs to use the bathroom and, of course, I had to quickly grab them and hide them while Tom stalled her. As soon as she came out of the bathroom, she said "Mom, I heard you getting the chocolate calendars out of the back." Today she's been giving me the stink eye. I'm a horrible liar, she is now 10, and yet I want to keep the magic alive. Any advice? What age did you find out? Was it from friends or parents? Were you devastated? Please help me!!!!

  1. I recoginzed Santa's handwriting as being my Mom's. I just gradually figured out. As long as I still got presents, I think I was okay with it. I kind of phased in and out of believing. Some years, I'd convince myself it was still true... good luck. Unfortunately, I have no advice!! Looking forward to seeing what happens though!

  2. oh no... you probably don't want to hear my story:) But, I'll share anyway, maybe it will help you. When I was 7 I went up to my mom and said "mom, I know.... I know Santa is not real, it's you". She said "yes, you're right", and I burst into tears and was crying about it for hours!!! My mom still feels guilty about actually confessing this to me. So my input would be to keep her guessing, let her believe what she wants, but never fully admit it. I think kids, in their heart of hearts, they want to believe forever. It sure makes the holiday so much more magical if you do. Okay... one more thing- I know there is a way to send a letter to Santa (actually addressed to the North Pole and everything), let her drop it off at the post office herself and then wait to see if she gets a reply. Every year we would do this and we'd always get a letter back. You'd have to call the post office and double check, but pretty sure there is a real address that all those letters get sent to ( I think it's a school) and they really write you a letter back! That might convince her:)

  3. I think I was the same way, some years I looked around for all the evidence that Santa was around and it eventually went away...sad. Harrison was carrying around a picture of Santa the other night and he said to me, "Mom, Santa loves me and I love Santa." So cute!! Good luck, I love that she gives you the stink eye, how funny is that!

  4. I was Sydney's age when I found out. My Mom told me on Christmas Eve because I asked (don't do that). My plan is to keep them guessing as long as possible. Being Catholic helps because when the time comes I can tell them the story of St. Nicholas, and that we believe he inspires the spirit of giving in us. I don't know how that fits in with your beliefs, but it may help.
